Planned Parenthood-It’s Time to Make a Change

Planned Parenthood is a great organization, which does a lot of good for a lot of people. So why do they continue to involve themselves in controversy when they have an opportunity to separate themselves from it?

I believe the organization should re-invent themselves into a much stronger, bigger, and wealthier organization. They should counsel people on abortion, and they should advocate for adoption as well. Today, adoption is much more common, and birth parents are much more likely to want to be involved with their children down the road (and adoptive parents are much more likely to agree to that).

If Planned Parenthood wanted to do the right thing they would develop the largest adoption agency in the world. I think Planned Parenthood should charge $25,000+ for an adoption and have people make payments over a 5-10-year period. Of that $25,000, $15,000 would go to the mother for living and health care expenses during the pregnancy. Based on income, some people could be charged even more. The more the adopters earn, the more they should have to pay for the adoption service. Planned Parenthood would make five times more money doing this than they make by doing abortions for free. Plus, they would be helping people fulfill their dream to have children, and they would be helping birth parents feel like they’re helping the people who can’t have children of their own.

Personally, I am not pro-abortion, but I would die for the right of a woman to have an abortion (it’s also the law). I think abortions are good, in fact, they’ve helped the American economy immensely because unwed and young single mothers cost the government a lot of money. But at the same time, there are psychological effects of abortion that are usually overlooked and are not talked about. According to the American Medical Association, 90% of abortions result in future psychological issues for the mother. That being said, I fully believe it is the right of the mother to decide if she wants an abortion or not.

President Trump has said that although he recognizes the importance of women’s healthcare, he is opposed to the idea that tax payer money can be used to fund abortions and organizations like Planned Parenthood, which do perform abortions. As long as that is a reality, he says, he will be in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood. If the organization were to implement these changes, Trump would surely change his mind on the matter.

If Planned Parenthood wants to avoid more controversy and make more money, they should just separate themselves into a whole other entity. They should refer people to another unaffiliated organization for abortions. For instance, they could refer people to a special urgent care facility located across the street. Planned Parenthood should also change their name so that they’re no longer associated with the bad reputation they currently have. This way the organization will be able to help more women, more families, and help themselves as well.
