I believe that Native Americans have made great sacrifices for America. Non-Native Americans have tried to repent for their actions by offering inclusion (which is sometimes rejected) in all our shared successes.
There is still more we can do. The tribes need to unite more among themselves and better assimilate as the real Original Americans—because none of us are ever going backward.
We want to always honor heritage, for everyone.
I think we should grant full title to all reservation land and eliminate the concept of trust land, transferring ownership directly to the individual tribes, without any taxes moving forward. Let them manage their own affairs. Let their members own the land their homes are built on.
This lack of ownership is one of the reasons for underperforming reservations people don’t actually own their land.
We need to do more, but I still believe we have greatly improved the lives of American Indians who have embraced the positive aspects of our society, rather than spending 300 years resenting what happened something we can’t change.
